Find Out MoreHi, I'm Nicolas Mavrides and I'm a Software Engineer based in Manchester, UK. I was born in Tameside, Greater Manchester and raised for a large part of my life in Nicosia, Cyprus. I graduated from the University of Sheffield in June 2020 with an integrated Master's degree of Computer Science, and have previously worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Rolls-Royce Control Systems in Birmingham, UK.
My education from high-school mainly consisted of a Mathematical and IT background, though I've always had an interest in dwelling deeper into the IT side of things. As such, I decided to take up Computer Science as my major field of study since commencing university. Through this I discovered my passion for Software Engineering, and became a big fan of open-source software and its community. The resources and possibilities of software are numerous and dynamic, and keeping myself updated and my knowledge on the topic broad is something that I consider vital to my success as a Software Engineer; thus my effort in doing so is continuous.
I consider myself to be a community-orientated person who puts great emphasis on the value of teamwork and exchange of knowledge; in any project I may work on, applying existing knowledge and learning from mistakes is often my key to good result. Communication in a team is another, and this has often lead me to being an advocate for effective communication during teamwork activities.
Education and profession aside, I have also taken part in activities such as Model United Nations (M.U.N) debates and other workshops that promote peacemaking, collaboration and cultural ties. I have a keen interest in aviation and keeping myself up-to-date with world events, and in my free time enjoy cycling and working on my personal development and skills.
